When I begin to think seriously about religion I invariably turn to this quote of Carl Jung, " One of the main functions of organized religion is to protect people against a direct experience with God."

There's a couple of ways to interpret that but I prefer to think of myself as a brave soul willing to take a big risk and go without religion. I fully accept that I could end up as a pillar of salt before it's all over.

Another function of organized religion is having a ready made community and meaningful rituals to help navigate the big events in life. It's too complicated for the comments section but here I do feel a tribal unity with people who believe in kindness.

Also, Mormon missionaries have been doing the door to door for 200 years. Old people love them because they love the company when they come to the front door. The church also has “squad” of these young people when someone needs help (like I did moving) that showed up overnight and took everything to a new place. The religious communities are almost always helpful. Thanks for posting! Marilynn

Love the walkers, not so high on the talkers.

I think John Oliver does a pretty good job with his lengthy videos.…. And he never did better than he did on this one:
